I Love This City

Last weekend I was in NYC. Which is why this blog went from having a post everyday to a week of silence. But I know you'll understand when I tell you that there was no time to blog in the big city. I went to spend a few days with my Aunt Debra, an amazing woman with whom I have shared a special connection since I was a young child. I used to color her pictures and insist that my mom mail them to her. Here are some highlights from my trip.

Debra and I had our makeup done at my favorite makeup place. There might be a family resemblance?

We took a walk on a new elevated park in the Meat Packing District.

We had dim sum in China Town. Sorry no pictures of the actual dim sum, by the time we stopped shopping to eat, we were so, so hungry. But I did take a break from shoveling in food to snap a picture of these mussels in black bean sauce.

Actually, now that I think about it a lot of my trip had to do with food. Maybe that why even a week later, I'm still kind of pining for New York! Murray's Cheese is kind of a icon, if you're in to cheese.

And this family is really, really in to cheese. Seriously this stuff was a-mazing!

We saw the Picasso Exhibit at the Met. And then had a hot dog from a street vendor.

We walked through Washington Square Park, where I lived for a summer in college, and saw the recent renovations. The new fountain is as big of a hit with the kids as the old one.

In short, it was a wonderful trip! But it gets even better...my Aunt taught me a new family recipe, lentil and escarole soup. Recipe coming soon...

Farm Boy

This month marks the one year anniversary of my parents building a house and moving to the farm. To say that Cedric has a great time visiting Mimi and Poppi at the Farm is an understatement. He loves being in country. "Its opener there, in the wide open air" as Seuss would say. There are several highlights of farm life and chief among them is the creek.

The redbud trees were still blooming when we were there last.

Mimi and Poppi have several old metal Caterpillar trucks. Here is Cedric doing a little excavating down at the creek.

Throwing rocks into the water and climbing over fallen trees is fun too.

And playing with his cousins Bradley and Allison is a big highlight too!

Look at these two - could they be any sweeter?

Despite the water being VERY COLD, Cedric was not deterred from fording the creek to acquire this log, which he carried around for awhile. In his own words, "Cedric is so strong!"
