Pre-Baby Adventures

I know, I know my baby is a week old today but I promise the next post will be about him! Zach and I had a wild adventure last week and I just have to share.

So Thursday night (May 5) I woke up around 11:30pm having contractions. No big deal, I'll just drink some water and they will go away. 16oz later I'm falling back asleep only to wake up 30 minutes later from contractions. Two hours later they have been occuring every 10-13 minutes, I have a pounding headache, and I'm really regretting not having a "What if it happens in the middle of the night" plan. I wake Zach up and tell him I think we should go to the hospital, at least to make sure everything is OK. We wake up his brother's wife around 2am and are on our way to the hospital forty minutes later.

About five miles from the exit the Matrix makes a funny sound. Kind of like a pop and then a ping noise. We both look at each other and say "That was weird."

As we turn into the hospital compound Zach remarks that its getting harder to shift the car into gears. But we are so distracted by the possibility that we might have a baby soon we park the car and head towards Labor and Delivery.

After being monitored for an hour we are sent home with a cheerful "Not yet, but probably soon!" Also my Doctor perscribed me an ambien so that I could get some rest. [Sidenote: Best sleep ever!!] We head out to the car, its about 4:30am, and it will not shift into gear. At All.

Long story short, the car's transmission "granaded" which is Dobb's techinical term not mine. And its going to cost upwards to $3,500 to fix. Yikes! Stripes! We rushed Cedric off to his grandparents for the weekend and Zach and I started shopping for a new (to us) car.

Actually a van.

A Honda Odyssey.

A grown-up vehicle. A family vehicle. I think I aged 5 years overnight. Owning this van makes me feel so adult. Its weird. I'm feeling my demographic: 30-something married couple, two kids, drives a mini van.

And that is how we bought a new car two days before we had a baby.

  4. Oooh, an Odyssey! At least you aged purchasing a van with an AWESOME name. I mean, the "Caravan" (my aging tool, which is now aging right along with me a 116,000 miles, and will until its wheels fall off b/c it's paid for) just doesn't have the same exciting ring.
